Think carefully about the activities that you might want to do and make sure that they are covered by your policy. Look at 'adventurous activities' and 'dangerous sports' cover as you might be surprised by which activities are deemed 'adventurous' or 'dangerous'.

Also check out 'prohibited areas', as there may be areas of the country you are visiting which are prohibited and, if you have an accident in these places, your policy will be void.

Look at the levels of cover that the policy includes, medical and legal cover if you get into difficulty and cover for smaller incidents like losing your tickets or having your camera stolen.

A thing that many people overlook is the importance of reporting an incident within the specified time frame. Some companies require you to report it within 24 hours, whilst others say 48 hours. The most important thing is to read ALL of the small print. If you have any questions or don’t understand anything, make sure you ask.
