Our aim is to ensure the safety of gappers whilst on their travels by empowering them with relevant and detailed information and teaching them to be more aware of the cultural, educational and environmental issues associated with the country they have chosen to travel in. Our aim is to cultivate a generation of responsible gappers.

Our key objectives are divided into short-, medium- and long-term goals:-

Short-Term

1. Build an honest, educational website giving clear information about specific worldwide destinations, without political or commercial interference.

Medium-Term

2. Provide the capability to help coordinate assistance when things go wrong and thereby interface with the agencies and companies involved.

3. Ensure that other gappers travelling nearby are aware of fellow travellers in trouble so that they can potentially help in basic ways, including using their phones, making sure that food and a drink are available or just a big hug and chat if needed.

4. Work jointly with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to transmit clear advice prior to travel on what help is available from the government and not-for-profit organisations.

5. Create an effective relationship with schools and universities to promote responsible and effective planning of the trip, and provide guidance in choosing both destinations and appropriate companies to use.

6. Provide a link to professional organisations specialising in gap travel, giving clear comparison and synopses of their capabilities and effectiveness.

7. Foster close links between gappers, their schools and families when preparing for their travels and promote contact whilst travelling.

Long-Term

8. Provide comprehensive surveys of insurance providers and investigate what medical and legal support is available, as well as where it can be found in destination countries.

9. Our ultimate aim is to become a default resource for all gappers and to be seen by individuals, the travel industry and government agencies alike as the independent information portal for safe and responsible travel.

Our initial target is to focus on gappers from the UK and Ireland, but the opportunity exists to help create a global network of associated organisations free of political and commercial influence. We will endeavour to be a significant part of the worldwide network of charities and organisations that work in the youth travel market. We will help promote responsible and ecologically-friendly travel, with special emphasis on good citizenship and safety.
